"He is dear to me indeed, who can call back the wanderer to his home."
This can be looked at in two ways. The person who can help somebody who is wandering off the path like the prodigal son, for instance. He has wandered away, he has gone down into the depths of life, the depths of despair. There are many people like this in the world. Anyone who can bring one of these souls back home ( 'home being his/her higher self) then that soul is 'dear to me'.
It can also mean someone who has left their physical home in search of God, as also many do today. They break up their homes because they are going to "look for God". We get no where by running away from our household duties. We have to see that that home is where we begin the journey.
It is in the home, within this physical environment, that one needs to begin the journey to the higher spirit Self, God, or the Christ, whatever we want to call it. The mystic Kabir, found this out and stated that he did not need to leave home and wander in a forest for years or through bleak deserts. He stayed at home and attained as a householder and his message was and is that we need to enter on the inner journey just where we are, wherever you find yourself is where you should be, was his message. He said; ' you have chosen to incarnate into this householders life, so you must remain there, this way you will reach your goal quicker, because you are not incurring extra karma. So, wherever you are, stay, but stay in Almighty God. Do not give in to resentfulness, stay with God in your heart cleaving to Him, cleaving to your inner light, this way you will go forward spiritually mush faster. There is no quicker way to divine realization that through the householders life provided one is doing it with the right inner attitude, with love in your heart. You have to know that this is where the Divine has placed me, therefore this is where I must continue in caring and understanding. Many seekers run to this Guru, this spiritual teacher or that one, but ultimately must come the realization that you yourself must embark on the journey into your own higher self, others certainly can point the way, but you alone must tread the way, through your own efforts in meditation, study and service, building up slowly the inner fires of the high self. Never feel that you are in bondage because you are are confined to the householders life; nothing can bind you, you are totally free. We all have physical duties to perform ( the Gita says; do your duty.) but that is only a physical thing; spiritually one is not bound. Spiritually one is free as a bird. Your bondage and your deliverance depend entirely on you. If you are a little wave fighting the ocean of life then indeed you are making your own bondage, but if you can learn to flow with it that is then your deliverance; if you flow with whatever situation is confronting you you will flow into that greater ocean of life, absolutely, you cannot miss.
Think of the apostle Paul who was imprisoned and the doors opened; Aurobindo was a political prisoner, a rebel and while in prison he read the Bhagavad Gita and had a huge spiritual awakening, he was behind bars, but not bound. Only your mind and thoughts bind you, nothing else.
