So, its the one day of the year when we show our loved ones, often at considerable cost, how much we care for them....
There are other days in the year, good days and bad days. A relationship, in order to grow and deepen, has to survive the rollercoaster of everyday problems.
A dozen red roses, exorbitantly priced, may be beautiful.. but so is a cuppa waiting when you come home from work exhausted, or a scented bath that is run for you, for no reason, or slippers left warming on a radiator for when you come in from the cold.
Too often, I feel, we are led by what 'everyone' expects us to do, and we forget the small, simple gestures that mean far more.
This Valentine's Day, I had a card, and a rose.. but, more importantly, I had a couple of hours dozing in his arms, snuggled on the sofa while he watched football on tv. I had his trust and understanding, as I spent an hour talking in French to my ex-husband, long sought for our children and finally found unexpectedly. I had his hand in mine as I fell asleep last night. And I woke to his breathing this morning knowing every day can be filled with love if we open our hearts and let it come in.
