Family feud
In my previous article, I brought to light how myth and other religious texts have been adapted over time to suit the political, ethical and moral issues of our ancestors. In order to explain the above title, I still have to talk about ‘sex’ a little longer.
Although homosexuality was seen as a great evil in some religious thoughts, other now forbidden practises such as incest were acceptable. It goes without saying that Politics and Religion have been walking alongside one another ever since the age of man and any new line of thought that needed to be passed on to the general population was done by adapting the words of God or Goddesses through the use of prophets or the early Oracles.
However, prior to the age of man... was the age of woman.
We can find proof of this through studying the history of ancient Greece and Rome. Put the historical facts alongside their Mythologies and you can find that the later versions of Myth have been adapted to suit their new political, ethical and moral climate.
The oldest Creation stories found in myth, all predominantly speak of creation Goddesses or two sexed entities. For example the ancient Pelasgian Creation Myth will tell us about the Goddess Eurynome, who rose naked from Chaos. From the Great North wind she created the great serpent called Ophion. She couples with Ophion who is also known as the Great North Wind Boreas and this is how she got with child.
The wind was for many of the ancient peoples, the source of woman being able to conceive a child. This is often reflected in some later mythological stories where the wind was ‘Godly’. Many a mythological God has been with ‘mortal’ woman. This line of thought has given birth to half Gods such as Achilles or Herculus. They may well have truly existed. Most likely they were Folk heroes whose strength and talented were so great that they must have descended from the ‘Gods’.
From our early ancestor’s perspective, this was the most likely explanation as they simply didn’t know in those days that it was the intercourse between man and woman that made us reproduce.
Women therefore were the rulers of the lands. Men were inferior in those days. The early Greeks sacrificed yearly or twice-yearly the chosen male consort of the tribal nymph/queen. The early kings had a very short reign, no longer then one year. They were chosen for example in ancient Greece by the priestesses of the Moon. These kings became the representative of Zeus, Poseidon or Apollo.
The sacrifice of the King was to fructify the fields and crops. These practises later evolved in the King dying a symbolical ‘death’ and a mere local boy would take place to give the ‘blood’ sacrifice in his stead.
This change made the kings reign for longer and with the later knowledge of women conceiving through the interaction with man, the world of female rules was slowly getting overshadowed by these male rulers. And with this change, so did the content of the myths.
From Archaeological excavations held on the Athenian Acropolis and on other sites in ‘Attica’ we can date back the Greek culture to at least 5000 BC. The rising of the Age of ‘man’ is marked by the God Zeus, who was in the age of woman a minor God. He became the Greek ‘All father’ in Olympian times. A temple dedicated to Zeus according to archaeology was erected in Olympia around the fifth century BC. This coincides with the completion of the fist Jewish scriptures, the book of Genesis.
The sign of the times had certainly changed to the Patriarch instead of the Matriarch.
These historical and mythological changes recorded throughout the Greek civilization can also be found in the Sumerian and Babylonian civilizations. From the latter tribes came into existence a new cult; the tribes that started to differentiate themselves from all the others, these are the early Jews.
The book of Genesis, is not just a story of the creation of the world and its inhabitants, it is also a complete record of the ‘Cult’s’ family line, an early Jewish version of a ‘Doomsday book’.
Within this book, the lineage comes to Abraham. Abraham was married to Sarah, who was not able to get with child. She therefore orders her husband to use her Egyptian servant, Hagar to beget a child. Hagar’s response to all this: “may the wrong done to me be on you!” (Genesis 17:6-5).
From this union came Abraham’s first born son called Ishmael.
However, Sarah actually did get with child and she gave birth to a son called Isaac. With her newly born son, she feels threatened by Hagar’s son and ‘orders’ Abraham to ‘cast out’ Hagar and her son Ishmael. ‘God consults Abraham and tells him to follow the wishes of his wife Sarah. In return he promises Abraham that his son Ishmael will become the father of his own Nation and that Abraham’s own lineage continues with his son Isaac.
Isaac himself becomes the father of Jacob, who later is renamed by ‘God’ into Israel.
The Hebrew God has chosen and favoured from this perspective Isaac’s offspring.
Isaac became the father of the Jews but Ishmael who ‘settled’ in Assyria according to the Qur'an, became the father of the Muslims.
The Qur’an came into existence through the prophet Muhammad. Muhammad was born in 670 CE in Mecca. Interestingly, the Qur'an, unlike the Jewish scriptures has included Jesus as one of their Prophets. But with such inclusion, comes adaptation. Let’s have a look at the Christian new testament and some of Jesus his warnings concerning Prophets:
QUOTE:
(Matthew 7:15-23)Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
(Matthew 24:22-3) As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the close of the age?” And Jesus answered them, “See that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray. And you will hear of wars and rumours of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are but the beginning of the birth pains.
“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake. And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
UNQUOTE
In the Qur’an, you may have guessed, these words from Jesus have not been recorded but... have instead been said by Muhammad, who claims to have been the last Prophet and gives out a warning to his brethren similar to the warning that was given by Jesus. This would make you wonder, why the Qur’an included Jesus amongst his Prophets?
The story concerning the Prophet Muhammad goes as follows:
According to tradition, when Muhammad was either nine or twelve while accompanying the Meccans' caravan to Syria, he met a Christian monk or hermit named Bahira who is said to have foreseen Muhammad’s career as a prophet of God.
And here we find the loophole.
In order to understand and to speculate the above information, I’ll summarise accordingly.
In the Age of Woman, the belief system became subject to human sacrifice. The sacrifice on offer was predominantly the masculine population. Does it come as surprise that when an opportunity arises that the male population seeks to take charge and based on these rituals doom the female as having an ‘evil’ influence. We can certainly find this in the adaptation of the myths and other religious scriptures that came into existence during this Patriarchal change over.
The Serpent that started out Masculine became an evil Feminine. Human sacrifice over time was seen as the conduct of evil Gods and made its followers the brood of such entities, in Judaic tradition this practise was replaced by animal sacrifice.
Two early Judaic brothers were alienated from each other. Self preservation caused by the jealousy of one woman ensured the continuation of the line of Isaac. Two brothers if cared for and raised in better circumstances may have loved and cared for as family ought to.
Love as taught by Jesus, who was a well educated and a very influential man. His own birth story is by the way very similar to many other myths concerning special births; especially one that resembles closely with the Babylonian ‘son of a Virgin’ Myth/Prophecy. Jesus left a very remarkable prophecy concerning ‘false prophets’ and it is this teaching that puts the ‘Qur’an into question.
The Legend of Muhammad is that he’d met this Christian Monk. From a political aspect of that time a good move.
The Jewish Brethren through their own scriptures ensured that the descendants of Ishmael would be excluded. The tribes outside Judaism were as history tells us scattered. Muhammad united them all including other Judaic tribal left over’s.
It is of course up to the reader, to how you wish to interpret the myths and scriptures. However, we do know from comparing Roman and Greek myths with Historical facts, that these myths reflected Political events as well as Moral and Ethical teachings.
Great deeds of the Kings and Queens were recorded in Myth and they became 'Half-Gods'.
It was the way of those days and only slowly with time history was recorded in a more factual manner.
Having said this, without a doubt Jesus and Muhammad were great men. But like Jesus himself said, we are all God’s children. He never claimed to be ‘the only’ son of God, that was something again that has been changed by men in need for power and today, for some fragmented Christian followings, he has even become God.
Muhammad united the other warring tribes who until his time were still ‘sacrificing’ as it was done in the old way and I don’t think that it was ever his idea to start this feud between their Jewish brothers and sisters or starting a war between Muslims and Christians.
The true scriptures were preserved, first through the Apostles, later by the Mystery schools, Gnostics, (whom have been ‘hunted down for their ‘seeking of truth’) and in the more recent ages through the secret Societies.
Philosophers were ridiculed and with those schools closing down, it symbolised the end of the Age of reason and the start of the wars prophesized by the last true Prophet, Jesus himself.
For the reasons described above, many schools of Western Esotericism have vowed not to use their Wisdom, Knowledge and Practises to manipulate the masses; this includes not getting involved with Politics.
Now readers, be it Muslim, Jewish or Christian. Are you prepared to let go of ‘dogmatic’ teachings based on half truths, political manipulation and power in order to continue ‘Holy wars’ on our Brothers and Sisters?
Or are we prepared to compare the teachings with their political times. And apply common sense and reason, to these teachings?
Allah versus JHVH? They are one and the same...
With Love to you all,
Golden Flower
